End of Season Care for your Mower

Batteries do not like being frozen. They also do not like going 'dead flat'; so, remember to charge them every 4-6 weeks. For ride on mowers we can install a digital charger that can be plugged in and left to maintain the battery; this prevents them being forgotten!
A good clean top and bottom will pay dividends. Removal of grass pulp and debris will help to reduce deck deteriation, and belt damage. To prevent unexpected starting, remember to always remove the spark plug cap when venturing under the deck; turning the blade is as effective as pulling the starter rope! Whilst you under there, it is worth noting that a sharp blade, will not only do a better job of mowing, it will leave a better finish, cause less stress to the grass and put less stress on the mower.
You shouldn’t store your equipment with a partially full fuel tank as this encourages condensation and water build up in your fuel tank. If you run the equipment out of fuel you are unlikely to remove all the fuel and the problem persists, furthermore you stand a chance of gaskets & diaphragms drying out or becoming stuck. Use fuel stabiliser or Aspen. Then – and this is important – run the machine for a few minutes so that the stabiliser circulates through the carburettor. Stabiliser keeps fuel fresh for up to 6 months or Aspen 3 years. Turn off the engine and completely fill the tank. A full tank will help prevent moisture from condensing in the tank which can form rust that could break away and clog the carburettor.

The lawn mower has a hard life; It works in a hostile, wet & abrasive environment. It is designed to be loved and cared for, and requires remedial maintenance to keep it performing well and reliably. Spend a little time preparing it for the winter and you will enjoy a happier reunion in the spring!

Here are some tips:

  • Remove the battery
  • Clean your Mower and keep a sharp blade
  • Keep a full tank of fuel
